Techniques, costume and music of Kuchipudi Dance :
Fast rhythmic footwork and sculpturesque body movements are the basic technique of Kuchipudi dance. Mime, beautiful hand gestures, facial expression, particular eye movements are the ornaments of Kuchipudi dance. One another unique feature of Kuchipudi dance is dancers often dance on the edges of a brass plate. Sometime balancing a full of water pot on the head during complicated rhythmic foot patterns. Bhama Kalapam composed by siddhendra yogi now becomes a part and parcel of the Kuchipudi repertoire. Siddhendra Yogi prevailed upon young brahmin boys to dedicate themselves to devotional dances that would lead them to salvation, and they were known as Bhagavatulu.
